Water City Music (WCM) has inspired young musicians ever since 2013 to perform at striking venues across the UK such as the Tower of London and Gloucester Tall Ships Festival.
We want to bring awareness of our work nationwide and take this amazing model across the country, but we need your help to do this.
Led by violinist, Michael Bochmann, MBE, we bring together musicians with a whole spectrum of abilities and experiences to play together and learn through doing.
Every Summer, children from across London have performed at the WCM Tower of London Festival, supported by professional players, music students and teachers. 2019 saw 1800 children from 22 London Boroughs come together in choirs and groups of all varieties.
We now want to build on this success. This is why we are making the appeal.
We plan to expand WCM across the country and want children from Land’s End to John O’Groats to be inspired too. Gloucester Tall Ships and Adventure Festival in 2019 was hugely successful.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has forced the cancellation of this year’s Tower of London Festival, disappointing 2000 children from 69 schools. But all is not lost! We are still determined the youngsters will have something to show for all their efforts.
Pupils from across London have learnt a song, taught to them by WCM online and are now uploading their recordings, to create a giant virtual choir.
The song is Stanley Holloway’s “With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm.” It is all about Anne Boleyn, Henry the Eighth’s second wife, who was of course beheaded. In the song, the poor thing’s ghost stalks the Tower of London with only her severed head for company. We just think the song is perfect considering the Tower is the usual location of our festival.
The video will be uploaded onto YouTube, and we’d like as many of you as possible to share it with your family and friends.
